Rochester Ravens FC
The Rochester Ravens FC was acquired by Doug Miller,19. Inc on April 23, 2009 to keep woman's soccer alive and kicking in Rochester, NY.
"I believe it is really important for our youth to watch higher level soccer so they can become students of the game. We currently have a direct affiliation with the Rochester Rhinos so the men have a direct link to the first team. We wanted to have the same relationship for the women in our program so we acquired the W-League franchise" said Miller.
The Rochester Ravens were founded in 1996 the original staple of Woman's professional soccer in the Rochester area. Founder Jill McCabe started the team in the summer of '96 and the team continued to compete as the Ravens until they were sold to the Rochester Rhinos in 2005.
"We thought it would be important to embrace the past and all that was started back in 1996" said Miller.
One of the main highlights of the organization was playing against the US Women's National team in 1997, although it was a lopsided score line, it was still a fantastic experience. The team has competed in the USL's W-league the last couple of seasons as the Rochester Rhinos Women.
2009 will embrace a new look and new name but the W-League soccer is back in Rochester, NY under the guidance of Doug Miller Soccer and its staff.
